Natasha Richardson, 1963-2009Sonny Bono. Michael Kennedy. And now beautiful and immensely talented Natasha Richardson, all dead from skiing accidents. There have got to be safer ways to have fun, like juggling hand grenades.
Ski-bashing aside, Broadway and the acting world at large mourned the huge loss of Natasha Richardson, daughter of the legendary Vanessa Redgrave and wife of Liam Neeson. They were married for 15 years and had two children.
The injury that led to Natasha's death is truly one of those freak things. She wasn't hot-dogging or slaloming or any of that other crazy stuff skiers sometimes do; she was on the bunny slope and took what seemed at first to be a harmless fall. Staff at the resort were well-trained on head injury symptoms, however, and well aware of how someone could feel fine one minute and be in grave danger the next. Sadly, that's what happened with Natasha. Bleeding between the skull and the brain quickly led to brain death, and she was transported from a Montreal hospital to one in New York so that her family and friends could come say good-bye. This afternoon life support was removed and she passed away. May she rest in peace.
