cast of Cashmere MafiaThe first of the two Sex & the City take-off shows premiered last night on ABC. The second one, Lipstick Jungle, will probably premiere in March. Cashmere Mafia basically took the clothes (could Lucy Liu's character have tried to rip off Carrie's style any more? She looked ridiculous and wonderful all at the same time. That is oh so Carrie Bradshaw), the scenery and definitely the music of Sex & the City (it was like they didn't even try. It was that same upbeat tango music which in the musical world represents fast-paced New York). The women are a little different than the Sex & the City women in that they are all more like Miranda because really the show is looking at them as succesful high-powered career women who are threats to men (and three of them are in relationships , two with kids) because they are basically men. They all have healthy sex lives but there are no Samanthas. All the actresses are likeable, especially Bonnie Somerville (who has been on every show from Friends to The O.C.) as a woman on the verge of becoming a lesbian. Lucy Liu is cute as Mia but I find her much funnier when she plays bitches like Ling on Ally McBeal. Frances O'Conner is good as a mom who is still trying to be at the top of her career (poor girl never gets to use her real accent) and Miranda Otto (an Aussie best known for her role in Lord of the Rings) is very elegant but often looks ten years older than she really is in the clothes they put her in. I think the show will do well mostly because it doesn't have much competition right now but frankly none of these shows will ever manage to do what Sex & the City did. You can only strike gold once. Or rather gold manolos once.
Agree! The show is good but
Agree! The show is good but is missing the "can you really show or say that on TV Samantha". The producers were definately trying to grab the Sex and the City fans that are eagerly awaiting the movie. If you can't come up with something unique, copy what you know works.
what a rip off tv. show...
what a rip off tv. show... it is obviously trying to rip off sex in the city down... down to the career woman with a child....... The show isn't thata great either
I agree that it is the
I agree that it is the newest show and so that is why it looks great. It is way too much like Sex in the City. I read another great article that talks about the same problem at If that is Cashmere I would Rather Wear Cotton
It's true, I don't know if
It's true, I don't know if it's really trying to be another show (SATC) or something different. Here's an atricle from DailyCents.com
