And your little dog, too!Maybe the doggy-dumping, picket line-crossing talk show host really did feel bad about Iggy. I still think she only felt bad for getting caught being a neurotic despot. But Ellen's making a half-assed attempt to make amends to the animal rights groups.
Ellen is "teaming up" with Richard Thompson, creator of Meow Mix, to renovate run-down animal shelters across the country. I say "teaming up" because she's not donating any time or money to the project. Unlike real do-gooders like Brad Pitt and Jimmy Carter, she's not going to be sawing boards and raising rafters. She has featured him on her show once, and will again soon to highlight the recent efforts. That's it. What, does she think she's Oprah? Next thing you know she'll be endorsing Mitt Romney, just because his name sounds kinda funny.
Thompson told Page Six that he and Ellen became friends because they're both pet nuts. He added that he doesn't mind Ellen grabbing all the glory and publicity while he does the work and pays the bills. I'm sure I'm not alone in doubting Ellen's intentions here, and wonder how long she'll stick with it. Thompson, however, is cut from a different cloth. Having sold his brand to Del Monte, he now works full-time to protect animal rights. Perhaps Ellen should take a page from his book.
