Bryan Greenberg in October RoadIt had all the makings to be a good show. That really hot guy from Prime in the lead (Bryan Greenberg), someone from That 70's Show that wasn't Ashton Kutcher (Laura Prepon, with festive blond hair), that other hot guy from 7th Heaven (Geoff Stults) and Tom Berenger who once upon a time ago was the hot guy in The Big Chill and other films. The storyline sounded good too. High school guy graduates and leaves girlfriend and friends and goes off to write book criticizing them. He then returns 11 years later to his little town where it actually always looks like October (hence the James Taylor song title of the show) to find his former girlfriend is dating his high school nemesis and all of his friends hate him. Oh and there is a boy who looks just like him and is exactly 11-years-old. So sortuv a Grosse Pointe Blank meets the TV show Providence right? Except no. Then they threw in Nick Garrett's (Greenberg) weird friend who has not left the house since 9/11, one of his beatnik friends having an affair with the wife of another friend, this weird hobby that him and his friends have of playing make-believe instruments (and sometimes in public) and Nick magically becoming qualified to teach at the town college and date a student. The dialogue was bad, the story lines were weird and the boy who plays Nick's maybe son was a bit creepy. In the season finale we are left believing that Prepon's son is Nick's (and our strongest piece of evidence is the fact that they are both allergic to peanut butter) but from commercials we have seen that she actually got all slutty and slept with her boyfriend's best friend, played by Stults. The new season starts in 2 weeks but you can catch up with this wonderful plot in a special preview episode on Thanksgiving night. Because Lord knows that is what you want to do on Thanksgiving night.
I have to admit, some of
I have to admit, some of your points are valid. But I still love this show and even "anticipated" the season II premiere! I hope the writers (if they come back from strike) will concentrate on the Nick/Hannah/child relationship that drew most of us into the show in the first place. It's such a great group of actors, but they need a good script.
