Natalie and Dustin in Mr.Magorium's Wonder EmporiumDustin Hoffman doing some weird lispy accent? Jason Bateman as a stiff? And Natalie Portman looks like friggin' Peter Pan! The new film I am referring to is Mr.Magorium's Wonder Emporium and I must say it looks like an even more deranged version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory (if that is even possible and minus the charm of Oompa Loompas). It is about some sort of magic toy store. Now let's look at films about toys in the past and see how they have faired: The Toy starring Richard Prior was considered extremely politically incorrect. Toys starring Robin Williams was aparently extremely awful. Okay so Toy Story was excellent but that was made Pixar and as we all know, they do no wrong. And that scene in BIG in Fao Schwartz is pretty damn good too but generally films about toy stores are a big no. And this one looks especialy ridiculous. Natalie Portman tries to convince us that she is this 20-year-old pixie want to be that believes in magic is just absurd. Go back to being a hot stripper who gets cheated on by Jude Law.
