The castI mean it is hard to go wrong with a cast like this and great music but I was still reluctant. I love musicals but I do not like movie musicals. I loved the show of Chicago but I hated the movie. Dreamgirls was good (especially the amazing Jennifer Hudson) but it was weird when after singing on stage so much they would suddenly burst into song. For some reason though Hairspray pulled it off and it was so wonderful to see these actors sing and dance. James Marsden took on a whole new level of hotness ( and my profound respect for him as an artist) with his dancing and singing and I even began to understand why there is so much hype about Zac Efron (his hair looked silly though). Amanda Bynes was great once she had more than one line which didn't happen until half way through and newcomer Nikki Blonsky was adorable. Michelle Pfeiffer and John Travolta in drag and with that ridiculous accent were probably my favorites. Brittany Snow was the weakest in the cast though she had an unlikeable part but Michelle managed to pull it off. Oh well, it made me smile and I was singing the rest of the day and that is the most important thing!
