Winona on VogueThere was a time when little Winnie could do no wrong. Starting with Beetlejuice, there was a period when the girl could not make a bad film if she tried. The Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Dracula, The Age of Innocence (directed by Martin Scorcese by the way), Little Women and my personal favorite Reality Bites were all on her resume by the time she was 23-years-old. With two Oscar nominations under her belt, a list of impressive boyfriends including the ever impressive Johnny Depp, the body of Kate Moss except with a big rack and a to-die-for short haircut she was doing well even though you could tell she was a little crazy. And then at some point things started to go wrong. Gwyneth Paltrow stole the script for Shakespeare in Love off her desk, she broke up with Matt Damon (that may have been the weirdest couple of the year) and Girl, Interrupted made Angelina Jolie a star and didn't help her one bit. And then came the whole shop-lifting fiasco which was quite entertaining for us but probably not so fun for her. Then Winnie began appearing in films like Mr.Deeds (which is perhaps my least favorite Adam Sandler movie) and doing guest stints on Friends, which was obviously an attempt to redeem herself. She practically stopped appearing in public which may have been the smartest thing to do since those Free Winona shirts only stopped selling recently (when they were replaced by Free Paris tees).
But now she a film coming out with the people who brought you the genius that is Wet Hot American Summer called The Ten and she will be on the September issue of Vogue which in fashion world is like being on the cover of the bible so Winona is like Jesus now. So you can just say What would Winona do now (WWWD for short). If she says stick clothing in your purse because she was doing research for a role and it had nothing to do with her traveling pharmacy run the other way.
