At least the Doc Martens ad was somewhat artistic. This crap is just flotsam looking for jetsam.

Or better yet, buy one for your kid, and then explain why they should want to carry the image of someone whose life ended so badly.
Kurt Cobain was an incredibly gifted musician. I have every single Nirvana album released, and still listen to them frequently. Right up until his death from a self-ingested shotgun blast, he was recording brilliant music.
The other members of Nirvana never liked Courtney Love, and in all fairness, she and Kurt did seem to have a volatile relationship, rocky from the start and shaky throughout. It was said that she liked to kick him when he was down, taunting and screaming at him when he was least able to defend himself. A couple of overdoses and failed attempts at intervention later, Kurt decided to finally end it all, and ate the barrel. His body wasn't discovered for a couple of days.
Last year Courtney decided she needed money. With no new projects coming in, she had to raise cash fast so she sold rights to Cobain's image for $50 million. I thought she was making a new album - maybe she can't write when she's sober. And now we have Kurt's image on a bunch of cheap crap - lunchboxes, mini-flasks, even action figures. Action figures?!? I love Cobain, but I surely wouldn't want my son trying to play out his last days.
I don't get what the deal is
I don't get what the deal is about people getting so excited about this. I saw Kurt lunchboxes a few years ago on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley (2005). Maybe these are just authorized and the ones I saw weren't, but anyway, they've been out for some years. So what? Why is having a lunchbox worse than wearing a Nirvana t-shirt? Personally, I thought the t-shirts that had his suicide note were way tackier. I don't understand the logic of your last sentence..."I love Cobain, but I surely wouldn't want my son trying to play out his last days." What's that got to do w/CL authorizing the sale of lunchboxes w/his image? Part of rock 'n' roll, esp when yr on a major label, is merchandising. Get over it. If you don't want 'em, don't buy 'em. And frankly, I wouldn't want anyone who tosses around phrases like "pig slut" to have a son. Or daughter. Do us a favor and get yourself sterilized. There are enough mean people in the world already. Direct your anger, productively, toward a more worthy target. I love how people attack CL for being such an attention hog, when everytime they write something, like on blogs like this, they're responsible for keeping the spotlight on her. How about not writing about her for a change? You say you like Nirvana's music; why focus on that stuff instead of being mean to people? You'll be a lot happier.
