Perhaps she's trying to be a good mother to her other children. Perhaps she's doing damage control, trying to assure those who have future commitments with her troubled daughter that everything will be fine. Or maybe she's worried the searchlight will turn her way, and she can't talk because she's chewing up the inside of her cheek. Being strung out will do that to you.
Dina has long been accused of trying to ride her daughter's coattails to a fame that eluded her in her youth. She is unapologetic in her reveling in the trappings of her daughter's wealth, and has been widely rumored to be Lindsay's party pal, too. It has even been said that mother and daughter have been spotted side-by-side in the restrooms of some of NYC's hottest clubs, hoovering up lines of disco dust.
The first time Lindsay went into rehab Dina flew out to the West Coast with a camera crew. Lindsay was said to be furious, but she was too busy running in and out of the facility to pay it much mind.
This time, Lindsay is in some serious trouble. This could be Dina's chance to step into her shoes and take over as the famous Lohan, walking the red carpet, sneaking in and out of the clubs and flashing her vagina once a month or so. If she plays her cards right, maybe she can land that spot on The View she's been angling for.
