The Starter Wife — the mini-series based on the book by Gigi Levangie Grazer — looks so damn good. It stars Debra Messing and will be airing on the USA channel May 31st. It also stars Judy Davis, Joe Mantegna (that guy who is in everything but you can never think of his name) and Anika Nonnie Rose (she was the third 
Debra MessingDreamgirl who was very good but she wasn’t caught up in the whole J-Hud vs. Beyonce fued so she didn’t get a lot of press) and some really, really hot guy that you only see in a bathing suit on the beach in the previews. Messing plays Molly Kagan, the rich wife of a studio boss who is left by her husband for a perky blond. Though she is devastated at first she realizes that she is finally going to be allowed to now really start living. The author of the book, Gigi Levangie Grazer, is the wife of producer Brian Grazer who made such amazing films as A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13 and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (okay that one wasn’t so amazing. A good try though). He also produced the TV series Arrested Development with his collaboration partner Ron Howard (so he is forgiven for the whole Grinch fiasco).
Brian Grazer and Gigi divorced and then got remarried. If he survived the book (which is clearly based on him) being a best-seller then hopefully he will be okay with it being a mini-series.
Debra Messing is getting very good reviews. I love her but I have to admit towards the end of Will and Grace I kinduv wanted to slap her and/or give her a pile of Ritalin. At least she gained some weight when she got pregnant. Those years of having to look at her chest full of protruding bones (she had bones I didn’t even know existed) week after week was tough.
